Operation Breaking Dawn: Senior commander of Islamic Jihad killed

During an air strike in the Gaza strip, Tayseer Jabari, a senior commander of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) group, was killed on Friday. Israeli leaders said, the actions were essential after the group refused to stop its attacks against the nation, a local agency reported.

Under Israeli operation ‘Breaking Dawn’ fighter jets had hit six sites in which Tayseer Jabari was killed.

What triggered the conflict?
As per media reports, in retaliation for the arrest of the West Bank leader, Baha Abu al-Ata, The Islamic Jihad group had been intimidating the Israeli Defence Forces since Tuesday. Al-Ata was killed by Israel in 2019.
Al-Ata the senior commander who was assassinated by Israel was replaced by Tayseer Jabari. Jabari’s death was confirmed by the PIJ in the Israeli strike.

It was indicated by the Israeli officials that the operation was primarily targeting the PIJ to keep Hamas out of the fight, as it did during a flare-up following Abu al-Ata’s death, as reported by a local agency.
“The campaign was specifically targeted against the Palestinian Islamic Jihad,” The Israeli Defence Forces spokesman Ron Kochav said.

The military had placed the Iron Dome air defence system around Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Beersheba in anticipation of rocket assaults from Islamic Jihad. The military declared a ‘special situation’ on the homefront, up to 80 kilometers from Gaza, stretching as far north as Tel Aviv.
