Commonwealth Games 2022: Three Golds in wrestling

On Friday, wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, and Deepak Punia added to India’s Gold medal tally at the CWG 2022.


Punia defeated Canada’s Lachlan McNeil in the men’s 65kg final, while Malik defeated Ana Godinez Gonzalez in the women’s 62kg final. Punia then defeated Pakistan’s Muhammad Inam in the men’s 86kg final. Earlier, Anshu Malik of India earned silver after losing to Odunayo Folasade of Nigeria in the women’s 57kg final, while Divya Kakran (women’s 68kg) and Mohit Grewal (men’s 125kg) each won bronze.


PV Sindhu of India has advanced to the quarter-finals of the women’s singles, while Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen of India have advanced to the quarter-finals of the men’s singles.


Bhavinaben Patel advanced to the finals of the women’s singles classes 3-5. Manika Batra lost in the women’s singles quarter-finals in table tennis. However, three Indian male table tennis players, including Achanta Sharath Kamal, advanced to the men’s singles quarter-finals.


The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi congratulated the athletes.
