Dallas Fed President Robert Kaplan said on Tuesday he wants to see more signs of upward inflation before raising interest rates again, but that low long-term borrowing costs may limit how far and fast rates can be raised.

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy on Wednesday gave the Catalan government eight days to drop an independence bid, failing which he would suspend Catalonia’s political autonomy and rule the region directly.

The country produced 114.08 million tonnes of soybeans in the previous season (2016/17), according to agricultural statistics agency Conab, in an area of 33.91 million hectares. The association pegged the yield in Madhya Pradesh this year at 905 kg per ha, down from 1,058 kg per ha a year ago. In Maharashtra, the yield was seen at 925 kg per ha against 1,102 kg per ha in the previous year.

Farmers planted less soybean this year due to lower realisation and shifted to other crops, mainly cotton, for better returns. Soybean acreage in India was at 10.16 mln ha in 2017-18 (Jul-Jun), down from 10.97 mln ha in the year-ago period, SOPA said. The oilseed’s production in Madhya Pradesh was estimated at 4.54 mln tn, down from 5.72 mln tn a year ago. Soybean crop in Maharashtra was pegged at 3.19 mln tn compared with 3.95 mln tn last year, SOPA said.
