£3 Million Laboratory Investment for City of Liverpool College

The City of Liverpool College has unveiled a huge new state of the art laboratory intended to enrich the facilities for students studying science at the Clarence Street centre. Boasting the latest technology, budding students can analyse DNA and assess radioactive materials, amongst other substances, through spectroscopy equipment which is ordinarily only accessible in large scale commercial applications.

In a bid to achieve growth in the region, £232million was granted to the College for the laboratory, aiding people in the region to progress on to further and higher education having studied different sciences, maths and technology. Whilst the Labour Party Conference was hosted at the Liverpool Excel, Angela Raynor, the Shadow Education Secretary addressed female students about choosing a STEM career in the newly refurbished Learning Resource Centre.

The College reported successful A-level results back in August with 100% pass rates in maths, physics, and biology and information technology much to the delight of the students. The College’s Principal, Dr Katie Spall said that there had been £3million invested in the creation of new learning spaces and laboratories in demand for the sciences and technology as well as maths and engineering subjects which are in demand in the area. Some students progressing from the College have completed scientific research in top companies where they put into practice the skills acquired at College.

The new facilities will go a long way to boosting the numbers of students at the college and aid in setting the scene for future scientific and technological careers for many starting out down their chosen career paths.

It is hoped the new laboratory setting including Stanhope-Seta will provide inspiration for the youth of the region prior to their applied learning. The equipment supplied is truly cutting edge and is normally seen in hospitals and commercial testing facilities.
