Vicki Moore, Pacifica Locals, stopped by to talk with Vikas Saxena, owner of Masala Indian Cuisine in the Linda Mar Shopping Center, Pacifica.

Vicki Moore:
Hi everybody. We are at Masala Indian restaurant in Linda Mar with the owner, Vikas Saxena.

Vikas Saxena:
Right.

Vicki Moore:
Good! I got it.

Vikas Saxena:
First of all, thanks for having me on your show.

Vicki Moore:
You’re welcome. You’re very welcome. Can you tell us a couple of keys in owning a restaurant?

Vikas Saxena:
The key of the restaurant is, first of all, having good communication with your staff, whether it is your kitchen staff, front staff. Is the most important to customers. So communication and knowing every part of the restaurant, like every section of the restaurant.

Vicki Moore:
What’s your favorite section?

Vikas Saxena:
Like, my favorite is everything. Like I have to do everything. Whether, you know, working in the front, working in the kitchen, you know, getting to the customer. So I have to do everything.

Vicki Moore:
And you love it?

Vikas Saxena:
I really like it.

Vicki Moore:
Yeah. But did you always want to own a restaurant?

Vikas Saxena:
Actually, when I came to United States, I wanted to do the business. I was looking around, what I can do and what would be the best fit. So I came across the restaurant business and then I started working in the restaurant. And I learned (inaudible) and how it should be run and all. Then I opened the restaurant.

Vicki Moore:
So my next question is: if you were stuck on an Island and you could only eat one food, what would it be?

Vikas Saxena:
If you are stuck on an island it’s hard to get any food. But if I could choose one it would be salmon.

Vicki Moore:
Salmon? Oh, really? Not Indian food?

Vikas Saxena:
Salmon, I like it.

Vicki Moore:
If you’re going to make dinner for somebody, they were alive or dead, anybody you could make dinner for – who would it be?

Vikas Saxena:
My mother, because she raised me with all the difficulties and all. So if I have to choose one person in the world, that’s my mother.

Vicki Moore:
That’s so sweet. So how do people find your restaurant?

Vikas Saxena:
So online, you know, you can search on the Google, Yelp, and different online sites as well. People can order from DoorDash and other online services as well. A better way is to call into the restaurant and place your order. And people love to pick it up. If they want to leave on the online and they want to pick it up, then it’s over the phone.

Vicki Moore:
Do you get charged – you get charged extra if they order from DoorDash. It’s better for them to call you directly, is that right?

Vikas Saxena:
Well, yeah, it is fine. But many people, they want that we deliver food for them. DoorDash is better so that’s why we pay for the online services. And then over the phone is much better because we don’t have to pay a commission to any services.

Vikas Saxena:
