Hexagonal Thinking Graphic Organizers

I'm wrapping up my week with a two-day research project focusing on the Progressive-Era muckrakers. My middle schoolers LOVE one-pagers and Hexagonal Thinking activities. I came up with an idea that allows me to combine both-- a hexagonal thinking graphic organizer!

Over the course of the week, I've introduced my students to several prominent muckrakers of the era including Upton Sinclair, Lewis Hine, and Ida B. Wells. Today, I'm going to hand out my graphic organizers and allow students time to explore and document their findings independently. Next week students will collaborate with their peers, sharing research and refining their organizers before submitting them. Students will be grouped based on which muckraker they chose to research. (Students may select from the following: Ida Tarbell, Lewis Hine, Upton Sinclair, Ida B. Wells, Lincoln Steffens, and Jacob Riis.)

Finally, I plan to allow volunteers to share their final products with the large group! I am excited to see what my students discover about their muckrakers!

Do you incorporate one-pagers and/or Hexagonal Thinking Activities in your classroom? I'm interested in learning about other creative ways educators are using obe-pagers and hexagonal thinking activities.
