Like most educators, I've spent the better part of my summer preparing for a fall return; whether it be face-to-face, virtual, or a hybrid system. To cover all bases, I prepared as if we were going 100% virtual. My first project was to convert my Syllabus into a digital syllabus.
About a quarter of the way into the project, I switched course. I decided to convert my syllabus into an Interactive Google Slide activity (a hyperslide). My rationale behind this was I wanted to ensure (or at least maximize the likelihood) students would read and understand my syllabus. I am sure most teachers understand the frustration of pouring hours into the creation of a syllabus and time in class discussing the syllabus only to see it tossed in the recycling bin as students leave your classroom.
I incorporated questions throughout my slides for students to answer in the speaker notes (or if we are face-to-face we can discuss in large or small groups). I also included a "Meet the Teacher" scavenger hunt activity and a slide covering Cornell notes (the note-taking strategy we use throughout the year.)
