Self Driven Cars- Are Indian Roads Ready to Welcome the Concept?

Soon, the dream cars could be seen running on roads of India. However, the driverless Car concept already exists in many developed countries. Indians will be experiencing the ride of driverless car as the proposed amendments to the motor vehicles law will encourage the government to allow the testing of cars. As per top roads ministry officials, the government will permit the testing of driverless cars as soon as the law is approved.

Fully Autonomous vehicle is great invention in transport sector. The driverless cars are capable of sensing its surroundings, and on the basis of environment, it gets navigated without any human input. However, the concept of driverless cars is pretty old but the implementation is still awaited.

Many vehicles of such type are developed but automated cars allowed on public roads are semi-autonomous as they require human to navigate the car and control it whenever required.

Self-driven cars deploy numerous techniques that help in detecting their surroundings. Some such techniques are radar, laser light, GPS, odometry and computer vision.

Advantages of these cars are crucial for lessening in traffic density, significantly reducing needs for parking space, enhancing mobility for children, and relieving travelers from driving and navigation chores. Another greatest advantage of self driven cars is lower fuel consumption.

Last year, in the month of August, the transport department introduced Motor Vehicles Bill, 2016 that is supposed to assist the entire process. Currently, the bill has been referred to parliamentary standing committee. All the interested parties, who want to test automated cars on Indian roads, must get the prior approval from the transport department of the union roads ministry.

The central government might exempt certain types of self-driven vehicles from the application of the provisions of this Act, in order to encourage the innovation, research and development.

The car manufacturers and technology firms of India will be joining the global race by developing the self-driven cars. This crucial move will take the advancement one step ahead. Some of the global car makers, who are currently operating the self-driven cars, are China’s Baidu, Tesla Motors, Uber, Mercedes, General Motors and Ford. Out of these companies, some have even tested them on city roads across several countries.
