Jetstar has announced Direct Flights between Broome, a West Australian tourist resort, and Singapore. The news was hailed by regional tourism agencies, with the airline promising to keep fares low. Flights will be available twice weekly from June to October, with tickets going on sale later today.

Jetstar Asia announced direct flights connecting Western Australia’s north with the booming Southeast Asian metropolis. The Singapore carrier has announced a new route, with the seasonal service slated to commence on June 25. It will operate two roundtrip flights every week until October 26.

Silk Air inaugurated flights from Broome to Singapore in 2018, coinciding with a decline in overseas visitor spending in the state’s tourism industry. Last year, the Broome International Airport sought federal government assistance to resume flights between the Kimberley and Singapore.
The biggest impediment to operating the international flights was authority to establish permanent, regular border services at the site.

Broome will be tied to Changi International Airport, extending the hub’s network to eight Australian locations. Tickets for the new route will go on sale today, with special one-way tickets starting at $145, and flights will resume in April next year. WA Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti stated that the new flight route would increase the state’s aviation capacity through the gateway to Asia.

“This Singapore to Broome service presents an incredible opportunity to turbocharge international visitor numbers to Australia’s north west, and inject millions into the region’s accommodation, hospitality and tourism businesses,” she said.

Broome International Airport CEO Craig Shaw stated that direct flights would connect the outback town to the rest of the world and highlight the region’s appeal as a tourist destination.
“International connections to Broome as the gateway to the Kimberley region have been a long-held ambition for the local tourism industry and the airport,” the minister said.
“As well as being a game changer for the region in terms of tourism, this new regular connection can support new trade opportunities from the north-west of Australia.””Any town’s prosperity and livability are dependent on its connectivity.”
