Orangekloud – A Speedy Solution to Build an Enterprise App

Technology has drastically improved to the extent that it has started multiplying itself on its own. Times have changed. You can now use a Mobile application to do many day-to-day tasks for an organization. These days, because of low-code or no-code application development platforms, you do not necessarily have to depend on coding to make a mobile application.

Orangekloud provides a Platform as a Service (PaaS) to help you build a no-code app on your own. Its eMOBIQ® product does not necessitate any coding knowledge in order to create the application. Anyone can make use of this to build an enterprise app.

We interviewed Orangekloud’s Alex Goh, CEO, and Kevin Patrick Tan, CTO, to understand more about their platform’s innovative no-coding solutions.

Below are the excerpts from the interview:

Please brief our audience about your company, its values, and how it is positioned as a leading player in the software development space.

Orangekloud is a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) provider and technology enabler for the mid-level market segment who are considering digital transformation with Mobile Applications. The company was incorporated in 2015 and had offices in Singapore, Malaysia, and the USA.

Our vision is to empower both professional developers and citizen developers to build simple-to-complex cross-platform Enterprise Mobile Applications using no hand-written code. Our platform solutions will allow them to go to market in the quickest possible time with a fully functional mobile application.

Product: eMOBIQ®: No-Code Cross-platform Enterprise Mobile Application Development Platform.

Target market: Mid-level market segment of developers and citizen developers.

Primary benefit: Anyone can build Enterprise Mobile Apps without writing a single line of code.

What makes it unique?

Building online-offline enterprise mobile apps smarter, faster, and secure.

  1. Smarter –
  • A Unified Development Centre (UDC) allows you to design, develop, debug, and preview on the fly on both browser as well as on the mobile device. It also allows compiling and publishing the app on eMOBIQ® Stores or other public stores with legitimate enterprise accounts.
  • Using a Visual Logic Flow (VLF) builder allows you to add and modify functional logic with drag and drop options.
  • Backend Data Integration is seamless with ready-to-connect Smart Enterprise Connectors (SEC).
  • Building complex B2B mobile apps without any hand-written code.
  • Work Lean on Resources – One developer can develop for both Android and iOS with low learning curves.
  1. Faster –
  • Build once and deploy across multiple platforms rather than building separately for different platforms.
  • Reduce development time by half compared to a native developer with wizards and visual logic flow builders.
  • UI/UX Design simplified with pre-defined templates.
  • Ability to compile the mobile app into React native mobile apps or use the default Cordova frameworks.
  1. Secure –
  • Keep your apps private and locked on eMOBIQ® Stores.
  • Applying SSL and data encryption to mobile applications.

eMOBIQ® has been featured for two successive years in 2016 and 2017 as a promising Rapid Mobile Applications Development Platform (RMAD) in Gartner® Market Index Guide Report.

Being an enterprise mobile application development platform, we offer a competitive edge to all ERP partners to extend their services and the capability of the ERPs they implement to the end customer with the option to create their own ISVs and microservice mobile applications.

As part of our ongoing product strategy, eMOBIQ® will be one of the unique platforms that will enable both full-stack application development and mobile application development with no-code.

Elaborate more on the solutions and services that your company offers and how they impact the industry and your clients.

As a Global ISV to principal ERP vendors like Microsoft and Acumatica, we have built standard mobile solutions integrated to MS D365 BC and Acumatica, respectively, that can be bought off the shelf and deployed right into the customer instance.

The standard mobile applications to different verticals and user personas like below:

  1. Field Sales (MS D365 BC)
  2. Customer Self Ordering (MS D365 BC/ Acumatica)
  3. Field Services ((MS D365 BC/ Acumatica)
  4. Van/Truck Sales (MS D365 BC)
  5. Warehouse App (MS D365 BC)
  6. Delivery App (MS D365 BC)
  7. Merchandising App (MS D365 BC)

Share your opinion on how modern technologies have transformed the low-code development solutions niche and what more could be expected in the near future.

“The Future of Coding is No Coding” – The CEO of Github had rightly mentioned this growing trend when enterprise application development is leaning favourably at Low-code/No-code (LCNC) application development strategy. To support this Gartner® has predicted that more than 65% of enterprise application development by 2023 will be on LCNC development platforms.

Mobile app development trends for 2022 have constantly updated from the optimum usage of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Wearable Devices, Augmented Reality (AR), and on-demand apps to designate teams and develop productive mobile application solutions.

Considering the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on global economies, what were the challenges faced by your company, and how did you pivot from those challenges?

In retrospect, the pandemic has created an urgency for companies to adopt digital transformation with a ‘mobile-first’ strategy.

Using the No-Code mobile application development platforms enhances the ability of the developer to build design-thinking mobile apps that enhance the user experience to a large extent, unlike the Mobile ERP Apps provided by major ERP vendors, which end up dumping the entire ERP screens onto a mobile device and confusing the user, who would rather prefer to see a mobile screen pertaining to his operations based on his persona.

The mobile application with the offline capabilities developed with eMOBIQ® for our customers allows the required data to be downloaded onto the mobile device when there is internet connectivity and allows the user to continue to work in an offline mode by referring to all the data records on the mobile device. Once the Internet connectivity is restored, the data with all the attachments and reports is synced back to the backend seamlessly.

In summary, we have used the pandemic as an opportunity spinner and have ridden the wave with more mobile projects for us and the development partners.

What would be your advice to budding entrepreneurs aspiring to venture into the low code development solutions space?

As a budding entrepreneur, this is the most opportune moment to use the current trends and growing demands based on the following advantages:

  1. Work Lean – Use existing resources to develop cross-platform mobile applications
  2. Low Learning Curves – Rather than having two different specialized programming skillsets (Android and iOS) to develop applications, with a low learning curve developing Enterprise Mobile Applications will enable the entrepreneur to build faster and go to market faster.
  3. Save Costs on Infra and Maintenance – With the platform offered as a cloud-based SAAS model, costs any upgrades on the device operating system (OS) is free for a lifetime.

How do you envision scaling your company’s operations and offerings in 2022 and beyond?

With the growing needs of enterprise applications development leaning heavily towards the LCNC application development strategy, we are gearing up to scale up the platform capability as a development accelerator both as a Full Stack Developer Tool with No-Code and with the existing Mobile Application Developer Tooling capability with No Code.

Since a major bulk of software application development requirements are in the North American region, we are now focusing on enabling distributorships in North America and Europe to leverage the capability of churning out simple-to-complex enterprise business mobile applications using a No-Code Development platform.

Along with the professional services and solutions that Orangekloud offers to the partners, we are hoping to increase our brand to North American and European markets in 2022. Plans are also underway to build a bigger team based out of the USA in 2022, based on the growing demands we are witnessing at the moment.

The Prime Movers

Alex Goh – CEO, has been instrumental in envisioning the need for developers to build Integrated Mobile Applications easily and rapidly. That made him develop the company IP – a No-Code Rapid Enterprise Mobile Applications development platform that would help transform mobile applications for businesses are built. It can be done even by citizen developers who understand the business process and functional logic to build Enterprise Mobile Applications and integrate the application to any backend data system through web services.

The journey began in 2015, and Alex’s passion for providing sophistication to the product made him invest in constant R&D on the platform. As a result of this, the company has helped solve many critical problems of the customers in Singapore and abroad with robust mobile applications that have enhanced the productivity of supply chain-related operations with design thinking mobile applications for the mobile users.

Kevin Patrick Tan, who has risen from the ranks of Technical Developer to a CTO, leads a technical team that focuses on strategizing the product development and roadmap. His experience with the eMOBIQ® platform has provided a shot in the arm in fulfilling the company’s overall product development and deployment.
