Do Not Rush On Lifting Lockdown, Says WHO

As nations across the world are gradually Lifting up restrictions imposed to control the spread of coronavirus COVID-19, the World Health Organization warned the countries against quick end to coronavirus lockdowns and suggested the governments over spike in new cases.

 “Countries must arrange for adequate tracking systems and quarantine provision to check the spread of highly contagious viral disease” said WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

“The risk of returning to lockdown remains very real if countries do not manage the transition extremely carefully and in a phased approach,” he said.

In similar, the epidemiologist Maria Van Kerkhove supported concerns and added, “If lockdown measures are lifted too quickly, the virus can take off.”

Countries like Spain, Germany and Italy has already begun to ease lockdown and US DonaTrump has also shown its willingness to open up the country again.

“The global health body would advice the nations on lockdown only if it’s absolutely necessary as it was up to the countries’ governments to decide how and when to end the lockdown” WHO official Mike Ryan clarified over the lockdown condition.

Tedros also said that he would run an assessment of the actions held by WHO after the pandemic recedes. “While the fire is raging I think our focus should not be divided,” he said.

The pandemic that had over 1.3 million worldwide cases exactly one month back, has now infected more than 3.8 million people with taking 264k lives by Wednesday (May 6, 2020) evening.
