Why they're running: Local runners motivated to take on Boston

Molly Rowe
Age: 38
Hometown: Swampscott
Job: Owner of FirstLight Home Care
Previous marathons: Five, including four Bostons
Race goal: 4:30, considering heat and lack of training
Why she's running: "We own a business caring for seniors in their homes, and we have an incredible caregiver, Beth, who was at the finish line three years ago when the bomb went off. Beth had a 20-year legal career before becoming a caregiver, but her experience as a survivor changed her whole outlook on life and made her want to switch careers to caring for others. Beth called me in December and asked if I would like to use her One Fund number to run in honor of the victims of the bombing. How could I say no?"

Paul Herrick
Age: 53
Job: Realtor
Hometown: Beverly
Number of marathons run: 0
Race goal: Under 5 hours
