UPDATED: 99 Pubs' 105 restaurants to serve Gloucester seafood

GLOUCESTER — The city’s Gloucester Fresh seafood marketing efforts have landed the city a major commercial partner.
The agreement for the family restaurant chain to feature Gloucester Seafood was announced Monday by Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken and Ninety Nine President Charlie Noyes at a Gloucester House luncheon for more than 75 seafood buyers and processors who were visiting the city to tour Gloucester’s fishing infrastructure.
Beside offering Gloucester haddock in the coming months, Noyes said the company is planning to continue featuring the city-branded fish throughout the summer and into the fall.
“We’ve already made a decision to do that,” said Noyes, who lives in Gloucester, after moving here two years ago from Tyngsborough. “The fact is, we’re a local or regional group. Gloucester offers us the chance to get fresh, quality seafood to our restaurants and customers, and this is a deal that is a fit for us and should work well for all.”
George Tagarelios, the Ninety Nine’s vice president in charge of research and development, said he believes serving with Gloucester seafood will only enhance the quality of the group’s menu offerings.
“There’s no doubt about the difference in quality when it comes to fresh seafood,” he said. “The longer it takes to get the product to market, the lesser the quality. There’s no question.”
Noyes and others said the restaurant group will be buying the bulk of its fresh-landed seafood through Gloucester Seafood Processing Inc., based in Blackburn Industrial Park. Gloucester Seafood, in turn, will reel in much of its fresh fish from Jim Odlin, who lives in Portland, Maine, but operates five boats that regularly land catch at Fishermen’s Wharf off Rogers Street. Odlin’s Teresa Marie IV, one of the boats to be part of the Ninety Nine project, was tied up within sight of The Gloucester House while the mayor and others spoke of the deal.
Noyes said that parts of the delivery system for Ninety Nine’s incoming Gloucester Fresh Seafood is already in place. The restaurant group has worked with Odlin in the past and with the Mazzetta Company LLC., the Illinois-based company that is parent to Gloucester Seafood Processing.
