chapter thirteen

it's interesting that voldermort is so autonomous. he must have had a lot of time when he was a student at hogwarts. i hope one of the memory episodes shows him as a student. i almost feel bad for him, but at the same time all of the other children in the orphanage were still good, and they had a much better life than harry did with the dursleys. if anything you know who put this upon himself. although it seems that rowlings is saying that evil is innate, which i don't agree with.

i really like how she summarized the chapter regarding the three important components of voldemort. it sounds like ultimately it will be him and harry. however, in all previous instances he's been dependent on another person. in book 1 he was dependent on the dark arts teacher. in book 2 on ginny. in book 3 to some extent on the mouse animagus. in book 4 on the dark arts teacher. and in book 5 he still needed the death eaters to help him try to obtain the prophecy. what's interesting is that the minimal action that we see between him and these people. in every situation he's issuing commands, so this makes me even more curious to see how he acted as a student.

i'm not sure what to make out of him collecting objects to remember occassions. although there must be some parallel between him and sluggy who we know also collects.

and not wanting to be ordinary. the only thing i can think of is that he wasn't ordinary, so instead of hiding this, he relished it.

i always feel that wizards have esp. that they have an insight into what will happen or even what has happened that they themselves did not see. especially dumbledore. he seemed to know that voldemort was going to be trouble, but was there anything he could do to prevent it i'm not sure.
