Kenya Urgently Needs an Arab-Spring Style Revolt

History might have succeeded in making us believe that the western civilization is an Ideal byproduct, and in part, a culmination of sheer cutting-edge Technological innovations, saturated industrialization, and sustained modernization of every aspect of life.

What happened between mid-2011 and late 2014 in the Arab world should force us to question such a hypothesis.

Can a society attain an advanced stage of Human social development thanks to the aforementioned ingredients solely?

For decades, the Arab-rich oil ruling families routinely blamed the west for their Economic Woes, sometimes shifty weather patterns, thus effectively cementing their grip on power.

When people realized that it was the very same tyrannical rulers who were inherently responsible for their Economic woes, skyrocketing inflation rates, nose-diving currency values, and untenable unemployment scales, a revolt was inevitable.

Americans became a powerhouse thanks to protectionism policies as opposed to their imperial master’s free-trade policies responsible for the enslavement of millions of Africans, and exploitation of resources from British Empire colonies…. The Founding Fathers envisioned a nation that rejects enslavement of fellow men for all men are created equal. Democratic ideals separated America from the rest of the world and soon, it was lecturing its nemesis on matters human rights, accountability, integrity, etc.

America opened its doors to persecuted, exiled, and self-exiled people from all over the world. It was because of such a humane gesture that America would later trounce Britain as a superpower given the exceptional intellectual capabilities of the foreigners largely credited for technological milestones such as nuclear technology.

The Arabs, united in suffering, Islam faith, and readily available information via multiple social network platforms online, demonstrated a relentless desire of an enslaved population to free itself from an oppressive minority by every means possible…it was a bloody route that has had mixed results yes, but it has indeed helped awaken other rulers (especially in Africa) who are unwilling to peacefully vacate office.

Kenya is now officially one of the most corrupt nations on earth, this according to Transparency International, IMF, and even Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission. Nobody is complaining. The masses are technically immune to the runaway impunity with which a few silver quick-handed rogue men and women walk away with the public till. Why? We have never been united against vices such as corruption.

Unless we are united (unfortunately by economic hardships), Kenya will continue breaking corruption perception indices records year in years out! Unless we stand up and choose to set the record straight once and for all, it will be business as usual. Unless we go the Arab-Spring way…with placards, slogans…agitating…cursing…As Americans say, Kenya will never get out of the woods!
