Yaphet Brinson Back Cover Outro from Different Dementions

Images are everything. Images are nothing.
Life is just a play on words and symbols
and human beings are the cast.
Black people, no matter who or what you call yourself,
are the protagonists in this surrealistic plot called
reality, faced with external, internal, and eternal conflicts.
Relativity is in the mind of the beholder and the beholdette.
black men &women are made into hoodlums & sluts
by appearances only.
I still don't know the difference from
bourgeois, uncle tom blacks
to militant revolutionary blacks; they all
possess wackness and blackness.
Let us all; light or dark, guy or girl, rich or poor, righteous or
foul, down or not, muslim or rasta or whatever,
straight or not-so-straight,
American or Caribbean; let us speak in
jazzpolypromiscuousethnogenerationallyfunky subtitles
cause today the youth are gettin' restless.
Know thy images - use images to your advantage
and to your foes' disadvantage...
and with all that in mind remember,
sometimes you can make meaning
by making nonsense.

The poem above written by Yaphet Brinson captures the Free Black Space sentiment perfectly.

Yacht Brinson was the author of Different Dimemtions published by Double Negatives Press. The work was published in 1993. Brandon was a significant member of the poet's community in Washington, D.C. during the 90's. He worked at the Kinkos on Capital Hill and served as a designer, editor, reviewer, and publishing assistant for countless poets. His sense of surrealism was highly refined as the poem above shows. He died in the late nineties as from AIDS. Members of the poet's community remember and honor him. He is a great representative of Free Black Space. Thank you Yaphet.
