Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

Jacob and his Grandfather are very close. His grandfather always tells him great stories of his childhood, including some that as Jacob got older, he started to not believe in them anymore. These fairy-tales follow the same storyline: When his grandfather was a child, he was shipped off to a mysterious island during WWII that seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. He lived in a house filled with Peculiar Children. Some that could levitate, hold fire in their bare hands and turn invisible! He even has pictures to prove his point.

However, there is a downfall to this story… these Children were hiding from dangerous monsters that were out to get them.

One night, Jacob’s grandfather dies in the forest, claiming that it was the monsters who got him. From the stories? Of course, Jacob doesn’t believe him. But he thinks he sees something in the forest…

His grandfather’s last words: Go to the island, you’ll be safe there. Find the bird, in the loop, on the other side of the old man’s grave. September third, 1940.

Jacob doesn’t know what any of this could mean. But he packs up his things anyway, and heads out to the island.

I Finished this 348 page Book in one day. That’s how much I loved it. From 10:00 am to 11:00 pm. After I finished it was as if I just finished watching a movie. You jump into the mysteries and action right away. Also, throughout  the story there are pictures talked about in the book. It’s wonderfully mysterious and creepy. One of my absolute favourite books. I loved the writing style of Ransom Riggs and how he incorporated artwork in the story. The second one, Hollow City promises to be just as great if not better.
