This way the government finds out whether your capable of being successful in life judging on your intelligence and physical capability. If you fail The Trials you are sent to live in the slums and you are looked down on by the society.

Daniel ‘Day’ Altan Wing is a fifteen year old criminal on the most wanted list for the Republic. He is said to have failed The Trials, or so we think. June Iparis is a Republic prodigy. She works with the military and is hugely known in her country.

However, the government is hiding something big. As a mysterious plague wipes out much of the population and is said to have no cure, people soon get suspicious; especially Day.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was very quick paced and never lacked any action. I read it in about 1 1/2 days and immediately wanted to get my hands on the next book, Prodigy.

Wonderful plot twist at every turn that had my turning the pages non-stop.

The characters are richly developed and you feel like you know them. Despite the new world, Marie Lu has done a wonderful job of building it up and weaving it into the story in a way that we never feel overwhelmed and confused.

Recommend to anyone who is looking for a fantastic action novel.

Rating:

5/5 stars.
