Dev has given up on the thought of ever finding anyone to love because of his demon like appearance, so when he and his crew mates are cursed with the knowledge they could lose their soul mates, it tortures him all the more. Violette only has one thing on her mind; vengeance. She wants to avenge the death of her father by executing the sister she didn't know about. Until she meets Dev that is...

You can read this book as a stand alone, however I would highly recommend reading book 1, His Frost Maiden first as the plot will make a lot more sense and be more rounded. Though if you haven't read it, Pillow provides a useful summary at the beginning of the book about past events (which was a good refresher for those of us who read His Frost Maiden over 100 books ago...)

I loved this book. I didn't really expect any less because I do enjoy Pillow's work, but it was really good to return to old characters and the main Dragon Lords series (there's a few interlinked series of which this is one). Even so I still felt that the world building was adding new things and I could learn more about several new races as well as the dragon/cat shifters of the main two series.

Dev and Violette had great chemistry, and they bounced off each other well. I liked that they had the banter and it meant that they felt like equals in their relationship. You could also see their thoughts and opinions changing when influenced by one another, which was another great touch.

There were also a few more answers given regarding the events from the previous book (well the events that led to the previous book) and the way in which Josselyn and Violette's worlds combine (which is one of the reasons I would suggest reading the first book before this one).

I really enjoyed His Fire Maiden, it was a great addition to the story, and who doesn't like their space travel with a bit of romance in it!
