I picked up Pawn at a point where I didn't actually know what I wanted to read, but I'm glad I chose this one. I was completely hooked from the first page to the last. The world that Carter created was riveting and the characters worked well for me.
I liked Kitty. Even at the beginning of the book she was a bit of a go getter. She wasn't happy with the system and felt she'd been cheated but more than that she was willing to do something from the very beginning about changing her life. There was none of the accidentally changing the world thing, she knew what she was doing and went with it.
I'm still a little unsure on the guy front...I'm not even sure there is a love triangle as such, though there were certainly some games going on! On the one hand there was Benjy, Kitty's childhood friend and boyfriend, who was steady and kind but seemed a little bit naive. On the other hand there was Knox, who seemed a little bit more mysterious. As a character I preferred Knox to Benjy, but for Kitty I'm not so sure.
I really liked this book, It was a great read and I look forward to reading more in the series soon!
