I'm still not sure what to make of Serial Killer Confessions: Just Friends. After reading the prologue my thoughts were that I was completely hooked and this was going to be a book that I didn't want to put down. After that things slowed down and I really struggled to actually get invested in the story. But the first few pages were so grabbing that I carried on anyway hoping everything would pick up.
By the end of the book my main thoughts were that anything surrounding killing and James' crime were written really well, but the bits in between kind of dragged for me. Some of the conversations felt a little bit repetative too, though it could be that I was noticing more because of who the narrator was and the fact that he isn't as connectable as some others.
This was a first person narrative and it was fascinating. I've never read something solely from the point of view of the bad guy before, and having read this I almost worry for Martello's past deeds! I thought that the plot of a serial killer was pulled off well, there was the motive, the execution and getting away with it all thought out well and it was believable (in a kind of creepy way!) There was no real idea of what the police were doing either.
This was a weird read for me. I was curious enough to stay reading even if I wasn't completely engaged.
