Aurora Rose has lived her whole life living in a castle, ignored by the parents that wanted a son...until Malificent took control and changed her life. After defeating the dragon, Prince Phillip tries to wake the love of his life, but something goes very wrong and he ends up trapped along with Aurora. After all, what happens when Sleeping Beauty doesn't wake up?

After loving A Whole New World (despite it's mixed reviews) I was really excited to read Once Upon a Dream. Though it was good, I don't think it quite lived up to the previous book for me, though that could be to do with some of the differences between Sleeping Beauty and Aladdin, after all in the original Disney films Aurora is a lot more passive than Jasmine. However this book did have me humming the song its named on almost constantly...

I liked that Aurora got a chance to have a developped character, and what the book managed that the film didn't is it managed to make Aurora feel like she was 16. She was struggling with growing up and with learning as well as the adventure element.

The dream itself was well crafted and I liked the use of magic within it. Malificent seemed to take on characteristics of both the evil villian from Sleeping Beauty and at times the more sympathetic version in Malificent. She did lean towards one more than the other but my lips are sealed on ehich one.

Once Upon a Dream did take a little bit of getting into, though that could be because I was constantly trying to second guess what was really going on. But this was a good read overall.
