*May contain small spoilers for the previous books in the Rook & Ronin series*

On the run from his unrequainted feelings for Rook, Ford gets stuck in a blizzard, where he has an uncharacteristic moment of niceness. Ashleigh and her baby have no money for a room and are camped out in their car when Ford finds them. Soon the three of them end up on a road trip that will change their lives forever.

So firstly a note on where this book stands in the series. The main events in Taut aren't really related to the main storyline but there were mentions of events from the previous books, and there are some strong links to Ford's feelings towards Rook. So technically this could be read as a standalone, but I would defintiely say that as part of the series there is something added.

Now the potentially shocking thing I never thought I would write about Ford Aston's story; there were parts that were super cute & sweet. Don't get me wrong there's plenty of Ford being Ford, and plenty of heat between the two lead characters, but there were also a lot of moments that made me feel kind of sappy. And a lot of them came from Ford.

It was really good having Ford develop as a character. I didn't dislike him before, but there was something different about him (which is explained in the book) that made him stand out. Ronin was my favourite and Spencer came in second, but the other side of Ford really warmed me up to him and I really loved his story.

I felt like there was less suspense in Taut than in the later Rook & Ronin books and the focus was definitely more on Ashleigh and Ford developping a relationship and moving past their demons. I do think it was good having such a focus on the two of them (and the baby!) rather than lots of other thing to keep the plot going...though I now do have some questions based on what I read in Come Back that don't seem to have been answered yet...

Ashleigh and Ford were perfect together. They had great chemistry and while on paper (hypothetical paper naturally!) they didn't fit, they actually worked really well. Ashleigh wasn't afraid to be herself, and Ford was just Ford, and yet they gave each other something that was missing,

I loved Ashleigh and Ford's story, and it's definitely made me anxious to read the remaining three books in the series! (Bomb, Guns and HEA!)
