*May contain spoilers for books in the Rook & Ronin series and for Come Back, book 2 of Dirty Dark & Deadly*
Ford Aston hates Christmas, except something about this year is different. Ford doesn't have women, he has pets, and the one he has on Christmas Eve has been a handful from the very beginning. When Ford is called upon for a favour by Merc, he ends up spending his Christmas Eve in the company of 12 year old Sasha.
So having read Come Back two books ago (and yes I measure time in books) I was very curious about Sasha and the interactions she's clearly had with Ford in the past (though I know I read the books slightly out of order). What Slack did was increase my love of Sasha. I liked seeing a slightly more innocent side to her and her interactions with Ford were pure gold!
By the end of Rook & Ronin's story I'd already started to like Ford more as a character, but Slack really showed that he has a softer side (which I haven't waited to find out more about and have already started Taut). I feel like Ford has gone on a journey, and has further to go. (Though I have a little giggle every time he is referred to as Rutherford!)
I thought that Ford's novella gave a good incite into his character, as well as into Spencer and Veronica's quasi-relationship status (which I can't wait to delve into more!) Having started Taut (which says a lot considering how many of my reading rules I'm breaking by having started it already!) I can say that Slack was a good set up for Ford's story.
Now I do have a book to go delve into! And having read Come Back previously I want to know if my suspision on who the Pet in this book really is is right!
