After being granted probationary Hero status, Maci Knight goes against Central's orders to find her twin sister, Nova. But Maci is sure that Nova isn't evil, especially after Evan's research on Maci's blood. But Supers are going missing, and it's up to Maci and her Hero friends, to find them...

City of Legends was a great read, and I hope that that showed in how soon after it I read The Valiant, and this one was no different. there's a good paced story laced with enough teenage problems to give Maci some real depth. Its the attention to detail in characterisation that really made this book for me.

I loved Maci and Nova's relationtionship (and to a less extreme extent their relationship with their brother Max, though that wasn't as complicated!) Though Maci is happy to have her sister back, and they do get on, he still feels some negative emotions about her (like jealousy). I think it worked especially with them being twins and with Nova being a new addition to her life. There was just something about Maci being jealous that made her that bit more real.

Evan also played a big role in Maci's life. After the events of City of Legends they are officially together and I like the contrast between the maturity their relationship has in some ways and the typical teenageness it has in others; things like Evan sneaking into Maci's room, and him being super nervous around her father. Also the ending between these two was perfect! It really made me smile!

There was plenty of action in the book, and it kept you guessing! Unlike in the first book though there was actually a known Villian at the bottom of what the Hereos were doing, which did make this different from the first book. The characters didn't always keep what they were feeling seperate and I think that Maci is really rubbing off on her brother a bit!

This was a great read, and I am definitely looking forward to finishing the series!
