It's been a couple of days since I finished Red Queen and I'm really not sure how to process what happened while I was reading this. I'm certainly kicking myself for not reading it sooner though because this was a fantastic read and I would definitely recommend it.
There was certainly a lot of male interest for the lead character, Mare, and it added an interesting dynamic. There was her friend from home, Kilorn, and the two of them seem to have a thing about saving one another. Then there were the two Princes, Maven and Cal, which is where it got interesting. While Mare was engaged to Maven, she was more interested in Cal, but then Maven grew on me a lot as the book progressed and Cal became more clouded. I'm still not completely sure how I feel about one of them (the other having made up my mind by his actions).
The dystopia itself was actually quite simple in premise. Those with silver blood and abilities (Silvers) ruled over those with red blood (Reds), who were basically used as canon fodder in a war against the neighbouring countries (think the never ending wars in Orwell's 1984 and you get the idea). It worked well especially as there were several different levels of how badly Silvers treated Reds.
Then there was the plot twist. Now that I definitely did not see coming! I was on the edge of my seat anyway because of all the action and the tension that had built up to that point. Even after the twist the pace still kept up and had me needing to know what happened next.
I really enjoyed Red Queen and can't wait to continue the series!
