While Werewolves of New York: Darik is part of the Werewolves of New York series it could be read as a standalone, however reading the previous books in the series gives a good back story to the other characters and rounds out the story. This book also adds more to the werewolve lore of the universe.
I loved seeing more the pack's architecture business in this one, it's been constant since book one, but this fleshed it out a bit more, with a particular emphasis on how they would make buildings green. It completely fits with what readers already knew about the pack. I also liked how the architecture thing tied into Darik's past a little bit.
Whereas most of the wolves seem to be very against finding their mate, Darik seemed very determined to find her. There was very little fighting what Talia was to him and that was definitely a refreshing take on the mating thing.
I liked Talia, she was calm in the face of danger, but she also stood up for herself. While her budding relationship with Darik was sweet, it was her banter with Dontae and giving him as good as he gave that really endeared me to her!
I must say I am very intrigued about Dontae and the hints that came about his story in this book!
