Interview with Wattpad author KayC91

Tell us about your writer’s journey…

My journey has been pretty short. I started Writing and posting my first book, The Dream Crashers, on Wattpad in 2014. Currently, I’m working on my second and hoping to finish that in the next couple of months.

What do you love about being a writer?

I Love being able to bring characters and worlds to life. There are all these Stories existing inside your head, and being able to share that with people who enjoy  reading what you’ve created is an incredible feeling.

What’s been the best part of being on Wattpad?

My favorite thing about Wattpad is being able to interact directly with my Readers. They are seriously some of the funniest, sweetest, people. Reading comments from my readers is one of my favorite things to do.

How do you deal with bad comments?

I encourage constructive criticisms and comments with tips for how I could improve my books. Even though having someone point out the things they didn’t like with your story can sting, it will only help you as a writer. Although I haven’t noticed any hateful or negative comments, it seems like the general action for that that is to delete and ignore the comment.

If you could have dinner with any literary character, who would it be and what would you eat?

Carswell Thorne from The Lunar Chronicles. He is hands down one of the most hilarious and charismatic characters I’ve ever come across. Dinner would be endlessly entertaining. We would probably eat at a nice restaurant that Thorne flirted and charmed his way into.

Vampires – do you prefer them as sexy leads or blood hungry monsters?

A combination of both to make things interesting.

If you had a time machine, which era would you go back to and why?

This question is hard because there are so many interesting things from every era. If I have to pick one, I would probably choose the Scientific Revolution. I studied science in college, so it’d be cool to see where it all began.

What life advice do you wish you’d been given sooner?

Step out of your comfort zone more often. There were so many experiences I missed out on because I was too shy or too afraid to try something new. For example, I was hesitant about writing and posting my writing for the public, but now I’m glad I took the plunge. And even if things don’t turn out the way you’d like, you can still be proud of yourself for taking that step and you won’t have to wonder “what if?”

If you were a supernatural creature, what would you be and why?

I would want to be a witch because they’re so fascinating. Witches have such a wide range of abilities and there are so many different types!

Where do you write best?

As cliché as it is, I love to write in coffee shops. There’s just something about the smell of coffee and a cozy atmosphere that gets me into a writing mood.

What was the last book you read, and what were your thoughts on it?

The last book I read was Winter, the final installment in The Lunar Chronicles series by Melissa Meyer. It was amazing! The balance between action, romance, humor, and suspense was perfect, in my opinion. I really recommend this series for readers who like those qualities in stories.

If you didn’t write in your genre, which other would you prefer and why?

The two stories that I’ve worked on have both been YA paranormal, with bits of mystery and romance. I think I would like to try writing new adult fiction next, just to change things up.
