[Book Review] Herman Melville's Moby-Dick; or, The Whale

One can’t be an English major student and study both the American Literature and also the English literature in general, without coming across Herman Melville’s Moby Dick. This amazing novel that was first published in 1851 is a novel that is not only a must-read for students who study literature but also anyone who claims to be a reader or a fan of literature.  Melville’s masterpiece is an iconic novel that shaped the literary scene in 19thcentury America, a tale of not only a whale but a tale of true revenge and the concept of “whiteness” which Melville explains in his novel and gives it many wonderful dimensions. I really enjoyed reading this novel, and although it’s a long novel for a class to read (in only a week), but once you’ve read through it, you will not stop!

A Book that not only deserves a place in your bookshelf, but also a place in your literary thoughts as this novel raises many of the important questions that we ask today, questions about the act of revenge and the true use of it. An amazing book and a must read, Melville at his best!
