Some objects from the Brontë Parsonage Museum collection are on display until April 2020 at the very Byronish Newstead Abbey. From Simon Brown's Twitter (curator of Newstead Abbey):
We are absolutely delighted to be displaying an extraordinary group of objects at @Newstead_Abbey this autumn, kindly loaned to us by the wonderful & lovely @BronteParsonage. The objects show the huge influence that Lord Byron had on the Brontë family
We have a 1st edition of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, Anne Brontë’s second novel.
The book’s main antagonist Arthur Huntingdon is a decadent, impulsive and indulgent poet, who mistreats his wife appallingly- remind you of anyone?
Alongside that is Branwell Brontë's notebook from when he worked at Luddendenfoot railway station in Calderdale. Branwell filled it with poetry and sketches, showing the clear influence of Byron- especially in their shared passion for boxing.
These are displayed next to [a] beautiful watercolour by Charlotte Brontë, a copy of 'The Athiest viewing the dead body of his wife' by Alfred B Clayton.
The central figure has been utterly Byronified.
