As I said in my last posting about the progress of The Brittle Sea, I have now tidied up all the extracts I have posted since I started writing this novel, and all that is left now is Chapters 1 to 5 on my blog which you can take a look at if you click this hashtag, #TheBrittleSea and I hope you enjoy what you read.

Does this mean I’m close to publishing? Unfortunately, no, because there is still a long way to go. I’ve virtually finished the 2nd draft, but will then have to commence the read through and make appropriate changes, which is what draft 3 is all about. In the end there will be five or even six drafts, which are basically reading and re-reading my novel to fine tune it and get it to its peak and ready for publication. I’ve set myself a cracking pace to achive this, not least of which is the actual ability to read the same thing so many times, especially a book that currently stands at 100k words in its current form.

I have always said that whatever you write, you should always strive to read it at least five times. It’s surprising how many things you can miss, from basic spelling, to grammar and to even getting a characters name or sex wrong… anything is possible in the next 100,000 words!

So, please, if you are wanting to read my novel then, I thank you, dear reader, but it does take time to put a good book to bed.

After this is finished, I’ll need to lie down in a darkened room for a few months.
