Australia: 24 Hours to Travel

Well, we made it. My wife and I survived all that Australia could throw at us, which wasn’t too much as I only saw one tiny brown spider and the sharks and crocs were all in aquariums.

What has knocked us both for six is the travelling. It took another epic journey to get back from Australia. We flew out at around 23:00 Thursday, Perth time and landed in Larnaca, Cyprus, on Friday morning and after collecting our dogs we were back home by 11:30 and feeling very, very tired. Eleven hours flight time from Perth to Doha in Qatar, a couple of hours stopover followed by a 3.5 hour flight from Doha to Larnaca, flying over such famous towns as Aleppo, Basra and Baghdad.

Boy was it different driving back in Cyprus. No sooner had we left the car park than some idiot pulled out in front of us without indicating or even looking where they were going. Driving in Perth was a dream in comparison to Cyprus. In Perth everyone was so polite and drove within the speed limit.

Now we start planning for our next trip, which is sightseeing in London followed by a tour round Lake Como in Italy, taking in a mountain railway and some epic scenery.

But first we have to overcome the time-differential and tiredness from all those hours in the air. A cup of cocoa might help tonight. If not, tomorrow we’ll have a few glasses of wine, a great way to overcome jet-lag!

Then I seriously have to get down to writing up my notes, processing the videos and pictures and bringing it all together into my own style of travel guide, provisionally titled G’day Perth: Western Australia. A similar style and title to Ciao Roma which I wrote a couple of years back.
