Never been gobsmacked? You’ve never lived. It’s British slang meaning ‘utterly astonished or astounded.’ Here’s an example, “the locals were gobsmacked when we walked in” and is widely used in the UK. I have never been gobsmacked, until now.
I don’t know about anyone else, but getting my eBook sales (haven’t started pushing paperbacks yet) up year on year is hard going. I’ve managed it well this year and sales are up by 62% even without December 2017s sales actually taking place yet. So all in all I’m happy enough this year that marketing is going well in general.
What I am amazed at for this year is the massive increase in KENP, that’s page reads to you and I. KENP stands for Kindle Edition Normalized Pages. This is Amazon’s explanation.
“The number of Kindle Edition Normalized Pages (KENP) read determines the royalties you earn from KU (Kindle Unlimited) and KOLL (Kindle Owners’ Lending Library). KU and KOLL started measuring pages read on July 2015, so no KENP data is available before this month.”
We only get paid peanuts per page, but if you work the total out per month it’s not far off the same payment as it would be for a bought book. And my KENP stats this year, 2017, compared to 2016 show an increase across all titles by a staggering 503% which makes me officially a member of the gobsmacked club.
Now that’s what I call an early Christmas present.
