Busier and Busier

Running around like a chicken with its head cut off? This seems to be a perennial disposition of many people today. Time goes Faster and faster, the world is Busier and busier, and before you know it you're caught up in its whirlwind and forget to stop. Why is this? In an age where tech is so advanced that so many things are done for you, one would imagine that there would be more time, yet it is the opposite. Could it be that we are simply wasting it?

When we get up in the morning, where do our thoughts go? What is the first draw of our minds and hearts upon rising? Is it our phone? Is our phone the first thing we gravitate towards and the last thing we put down before retiring? It simply isn't a satisfying thing to bond with an electronic to that degree--its almost like it becomes a presence in our life that we rely on.

So what is the answer? Stop time, eliminate technology, and go off the grid? We are not balanced individuals if we run to a desert island with no reception. Hardly. Yet, what are we spending time on? If you look back over the day, how much of it was for God? How much of it involved the people in our lives and the duties of the moment?

Something that inspired me this week was this quote: "consider the shortness of time, the length of eternity, and reflect how everything here below comes to an end and passes by. Of what use is it to lean upon that, which cannot give support?" ~ St. Gerard Majella

What is our grand central station? We can be going in a million directions, but if they don't get us to our train, then what is the point of it all? Could it be the answer lies in interior silence?
