It’s been ages since I did my last Book tag. You know me as someone who is not good at keeping up with new book tags and this tag that I’ll do has been around for quite some time now so bear with me. This tag was created by Kate over at her Booktube channel, GirlReading. It’s basically just about answering bookish questions. This will probably give you a glimpse of my bookish choices.
So let’s start the Rapid Fire Book Tag!!
1. E-Book or Physical Book?
– Physical books all the way! Though I must admit that e-books are much more convenient, nothing beats that magical sensation it brings to me of being able to feel a physical book and smell its pages.
2. Paperback or Hardback?
– This is quite a hard question. My books are a mixture and both and I actually don’t mind what format of book I have as long as I have a copy of the title I want. Hardbacks are prettier in bookshelves and much sturdier but paperbacks are much more easier to read and carry around. If convenience is the criteria for this question, I will go with hardbounds as I don’t mind carrying heavy books around.
3. Online or In-Store Book Shopping?
– A bookstore is my go-to place when I am stressed out. After a long and tiring day at work, the feeling of being surrounded with rows and rows of book calms and energizes me. Being able to browse through the shelves and take out the books that you want gives me that unique excitement that I don’t feel when I buy books online.
4. Trilogies or Series?
– I am standalone kind of reader, so the shorter the series that better it is for me. I am assuming that for this question, series means books that a three books and more so I’ll choose trilogies.
5. Heroes or Villains?
– Villains. I am usually fascinated with villains especially their backgrounds as to how they ended up as the bad guys.
6. A book you want everyone to read?
– Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami. One word to describe it: MAGICAL! Here’s my book review.
7. Recommend an underrated book?
– For this, I’ll choose a local Filipino book written in English. It’s Dwellers by Eliza Victoria. Here’s my book review.
8. The last book you finished?
– No Knives in the Kitchens of this City by Khaled Khalifa. Here’s my book review.
9. The Last Book You Bought?
– A nonfiction book. The last book I bought was Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson. I’ve been fascinated by this book for a long while. I immediate grabbed it when I saw that it was on sale.
10. Weirdest Thing You’ve Used as a Bookmark?
– Our TV remote control. I can watch my favorite TV series and read a book at the same time. Talking about being a multi-tasker. *winks*
11. Used Books: Yes or No?
– YES! 70% of my books are from second hand books shops. I’m always amaze reading the notes left on the pages and seeing receipts and letters of the previous owners that comes with them or if I’m lucky enough some books comes with old bookmarks.
12. Top Three Favourite Genres?
1. Literary Fiction
2. Classics
3. Young Adult
I read almost all genres but the above three gave me my best reading experiences.
13. Borrow or Buy?
– Buy. Public local libraries here in the Philippines doesn’t carry much titles of books that I prefer reading. And also I don’t have much bookworm friends whom I can borrow books from.
14. Characters or Plot?
– Plot. A book with bad characters is better for me than a book with amazing characters but shallow plot.
15. Long or Short Books?
– Majority of the books that I read are more on the short side but I would like to remedy it this year. I have plans of reading a couple of chunky books this year.
16. Long or Short Chapters?
– Short chapters. I find books with short chapters easier and faster to read.
17. Name The First Three Books You Think Of…
1. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain
2. Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami
3. I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson
18. Books That Makes You Laugh or Cry?
– Books that makes me cry. I tend to prefer books that moves me emotionally. Though it usually hurts, there’s that feeling of satisfaction.
19. Our World or Fictional Worlds?
– Our world. I’m not much of a fan of scifi and fantasy books which are most of the time set in fictional worlds.
20. Audiobooks: Yes or No?
– No. I tend to fall asleep when I listen to audiobooks.
21. Do You Ever Judge a Book by its Cover?
– Yes. I can’t help it. My hands tends reach for books with amazing covers. Unless I’ve heard rave reviews, I usually don’t pick up books with bland covers.
22. Book to Movie or Book to TV Adaptations?
– Books to TV Adaptations. Best example? Game of Thrones.
23. A Movie or TV-Show You Preferred to its Book?
– Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. I love how the book treated the book’s atmosphere. Here’s my book-to-movie review.
24. Series or Standalone’s?
– Standalones all the way! I’m not good at keeping up with book series.
