Best Books of 2016

Again, this is a list of best books read in 2016, not published in 2016, since I (and no one I know) reads that way. So, here goes:

Abyssinian Chronicles: Okay, it's about Uganda, and many of you may think, dafuq do I care about that small nation? But this is about so much more, to include colonial and post colonial and refugee and populist and religious and you name it strands of thoughts and the power behind them on an individual and national and international basis. I moved it to my best books of the 20th century list. Yeah, it's that good. Check it out.

Satanic Verses: This book seems to reach out to do too much. And it doesn't do them all, and yet I see what it's aiming to do and it's worth a read just for that. Yes, it it's dripping in blood (actual deaths) and yes its controversial, but every citizen of a democratic nation (or who is behind democracy on some level) should read it.

ISIS: Many books on ISIS out there. Some are informative, but most are propaganda made to scare you. Check this book out instead.

Teaching My Mother How to Give Birth: Raw and to the point. Makes me love poetry. Check it out, it's worth it!

No Good Men Amongst the Living: Solid look at the Afghan war with an eye towards hearing the story of those on the side of the Taliban as well as other Afghanis.

Shalimar the Clown: this book has some flaws, what book doesn't?, but it manages to overcome them with a treatise on terrorism. I don't always agree, but it's the most comprehensive one out there. [1]. Good enough to add to my best books of the 21st century books.

Honorable Mentions:

Bastards of the Reagan Era.

Milk and Honey

War Porn

The Sympathizer

[1] This isn't true. I think Ministry of Bombs is better, but I'm in no position to state that too loudly, now am I?
