Synopsis (from Goodreads): Nothing has gone according to Princess Sarita's plan. From near drowning to almost plummeting off the side of a mountain, she has had to face many obstacles that have dared to come between her and her quest for magic. Unfortunately, the challenge she must face now is the desires of her own heart. A crazy scheme could be the answer to everyone's dreams or the end of them...Set sail for Song of Sorrows, Book Three of the Songs of Everealm Series!

Song of Sorrows is the third book in the Songs of Everealm series and shouldn't be read as a standalone. The previous two books in the Songs of Everealm series are a must, I would also recommend reading the previous series Everealm, as many of the characters have roles in that series too (plus it's an awesome series!) This review may contain minor spoilers for previous books in the series.

I've been looking forward to this book since the moment I finished Song of Sparrows, and I'm looking forward to the next one which I need right now! Wright really knows how to drag you into the story, and even when things are going well for a character or a couple, you know that there is something more that may happen.

One of the things I really love about this book, and this series, is that while there are strong romance storylines in them, there is also a big focus on friendship. Both the male and female characters have strong bonds with their friends and they don't let that be confined by status or gender (i.e. Sarita and Oliver are good friends despite being a Princess and a Squire and not remotely interested in each other romantically).

Most of the couples in this book were preestablished (but not necessarily together). Sarita and Cassidy are probably the most notable in the fact that technically they've never been a couple, but they have spent a decade loving each other (it is both cute and lets-bang-their-heads-together at the same time, but it makes great reading). Jake and Calista spent most of the last book arguing (but this book really moves their relationship forward) and Gabby has been avoiding Oliver since the end of the last book.

The "new" couple in the book, Jolene and Garrison, were definitely a highlight. I say "new" because they were both pre-existing characters, and if I'm honest  I didn't like Garrison much at all (through no real fault of his own, he got in between a long standing couple), but this really made me warm up to him. Their growing friendship and understanding between them makes their story highly enjoyable.

This book, and series, involves romance, magic and adventure. The characters are complex and the friendships believable...what's not to love!
