The Relentless Weekly – Sept. 18, 2020

Hello, welcome, and happy Friday! It’s time for my Weekly wrap-up. Join me, won’t you?

Watching: I’ve been digging The Umbrella Academy and the latest season of Call the Midwife on Netflix. I’m always looking for another British show to binge, so I’ll take any recommendations you may have!

Celebrating: It was my 23rd wedding anniversary on the 13th of this month. We’ve been together for over half of my life. I wish I could tell you the secret, but I don’t think there is one. It’s work and it’s luck. It’s hilarious and it’s tragic. It’s a delicate balance that we consistently screw up. It’s magical, it’s awful, and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. There’s an old Orleans song that sums it up nicely:

“We’ve been together since way back when
Sometimes I never want to see you again
But I want you to know, after all these years
You’re still the one I want whisperin’ in my ear

You’re still the one — I want to talk to in bed
Still the one — that turns my head
We’re still having fun, and you’re still the one”

Listening: I’ve been tearing through some amazing Audio, including Lights All Night Long by Lydia Fitzpatrick and Red at the Bone by Jacqueline Woodson. (Excellent, both of them.)

I just finished Listening to The Trauma Cleaner by Sarah Krasnostein. WOW. I don’t think I can recommend it strongly enough. Get thee to a bookstore! Or a library! Or to wherever you can get your hands on this genuine, heartbreaking, hopeful, page-turner of a book.

Reading: Print continues to be a challenge for me. My eyes are acting in a bizarre manner. Well, no. They are acting as expected. They’ve been doing a lot of hard work for 46 years. They are tired! It’s something that I do need to figure out. I’m happy to listen to audio, but I also want to hold a book in my hands. I have a stack of beauties that I’m longing to read.

Wondering: Have you made a plan to vote? Please do. Vote like your life depends on it… because it does.
