Financial Freedom: Understanding Structured Settlements with Jodie Lamb

Hello, my name is Avil Beckford, and I'm the host of The One Problem podcast. We know that there are tons of problems in the world. But why get overwhelmed? We're going to tackle them one problem at a time. As has been the case, the majority of the people who come on this podcast, I have some prior relationship with them, and that's the case with my guest today, Jodie Lamb. Now, she is a structured settlement consultant. I never knew what this was until I met her almost a year ago. Now, I'm going to turn the floor over to you, Jodie. You're going to present your problem. You have six minutes to provide a solution. The podcast needs to be done in 10 minutes. Over to you, Jodie.

Jodie Lamb

Thank you so much for your introduction, Avil. I appreciate your time and the opportunity to be a guest on your podcast. As you mentioned, I am a Structured Settlement Consultant. The big problem that we have is most people don't know what that even means. That's fair. A structured settlement is an opportunity to settle a personal injury case for something other than just a cash check at the end. Specifically, they can customize a payment that is paid over time to meet future needs, such as income replacement, future medical treatment, or even protection of money until a child reaches the age of majority.

The One Problem With Jodie Lamb

What most people don't know or appreciate is that a structured settlement offers tax-free, guaranteed future payments. Now, we can invest those into fixed or market-based investments, and we can customize payments to meet everyone's unique individual needs. It is a great tool to diversify and maximize settlement opportunities and financial portfolios for individuals who are negotiating their claims. Those claims could involve a dog bite. Maybe their child was injured at school. Maybe their child was injured in a car accident. It could be an accident at the workplace, or you yourself might find yourself a victim of a personal injury accident.

And that's how I got into this work. I was involved in an accident. And I was involved in personal investments and the claims profession. I've been in the insurance industry now for almost 25 years. I've been through Series 667, Life Health, annuity licenses. And you know what? They're a tiny, tiny footnote in those training and educational courses.

Most people don't know about it. Very few people have access to it. It is a very limited opportunity. But for those who are settling their claim, it is essentially important that they understand what their options are before they settle. That's the problem today. Most people don't know that this opportunity exists, and if they find out about it after the claim settles, it's too late.

Avil Beckford

Thank you so much because I never knew about structured settlements until I met you. Every day, you do a great job educating people. Thank you so much for providing this information to my listeners.
