Janice Shokrian: Mastering Time Management Journey to Success with Tausi Pillows

Hi there. My name is Avil Beckford, and I'm the host of the One Problem podcast. There are tons of problems in the world. We're going to tackle them one problem at a time because we don't want to get overwhelmed. As has been the case, most of the people who come on this podcast, I have some prior relationship with them. I met today's guest, Janice Shokrian, on LinkedIn. I met her maybe two, three months ago. We're in a group together. Now, she is a creative collaborator, a producer, and a patent innovator. Over to you, Janice.

Janice Shokrian

Thank you for having me. I am so happy to be here. As I'm going to state my problem, my problem is productivity and time management. Actually, I would flip that, time management and productivity. As an entrepreneur and the founder of the patented pillowcase, Tausi, of Tausi Brands, I have a million things to be doing. I have my social media marketing and branding, I have my LinkedIn, deepening relationships, like with you. And I have my finances and accounting, and I have my daily operations and also my IT, and I'm not proficient in these areas, and yet I beat myself up for not knowing what I don't know.

That lessens my ability to be productive because I'm spending a lot of my time trying to find resources to teach myself how to do the things I need to do to level up my business. And the search for these articles are sometimes when I read them and I'm taught seven things to do for your SEO. Then I look a little deeper to see who wrote this and where it's coming from. It's not a credible source. And so I'm having to do the homework. But also to ask the prompt questions for the class and to be the professor of my class.

The One Problem: Janice Shokrian, Creative Collaborator, Producer, and Patent Innovator

And that is not making me efficient, not making me productive, and also giving some really negative self-talk to me about not getting everything done I wanted to get done on my to-do list. If I accomplish sometimes three items in a day, that feels like a lot. While my to-do list has probably 12 to 15 items there. So what can I do about that? I think I went too far on my problem.

Janice Shokrian

What I can do about it is to really set time limits for focusing on my solutions. So perhaps one day I can chisel away at my SEO and work on that for just a segmented period. And then maybe take a little note as to what my progress is. So when I go back to that, I know that I'm further down the road than starting over. Another thing I can do is also segment my time for my planning, which I'm starting to do, my social media content. And I'm trying… My goal is to build out the third quarter of my social media posts before Sunday, and I have a third of it done. So that's good. And so that's one of my goals.

And we'll have that complete this weekend. Another time management goal that I have is to actually really talk with you about what leadership books or what books about time management that I could incorporate and strengthen my wheelhouse because I'm finding that I don't have… I need to level up what I don't know.

Additionally, the bookkeeping and such, I found a bookkeeper, so I've got everything all organized and gathered, and I'm going to be turning that over to this gentleman. And he and his son are wonderful local people who are going to help me with my bookkeeping, and I get to take that off my shoulders. And that will make me feel really accomplished and cut down on some of my time crunch.

Outsourcing is a big thing. As an entrepreneur, you really don't have the resources. But I'm picking and choosing what I can do. That will now enable me to finish up getting my courses done for HSN's live marketplace. And I can go live this month and hopefully sell more products, and therefore that can pay for these outsourcing items. As we're winding down, I believe it would be important for me to surround myself with people who know more than I do.

I've really tapped out some resources that I know of. And I'm looking forward to making connections so I can learn to be better. It is very important for me to bring this product to market. And that everybody deserves to be comfortable and know about Tausi. So that is my goal to get this product out there for our vulnerable seniors, who need head and neck support, our college kids who are reading books in bed and just want to be comfortable in their position, and to people recovering from surgeries.

I believe in what I've created and I'm excited about it. My next step with this is actually launching a Kickstarter this summer for my travel size, Tausi, that I think will meet more people's needs. So much to do, so little time. And my goal is to learn how to use my time wisely. And I'm winding up my last few minutes. I want to say if you want to reach me, it's [email protected]. And if anybody's listening to this, you can use the discount code to look comfy for a nice sweet discount on your Tausi.

Avil Beckford

I really liked what you talk about because a lot of times people present this image that they have everything under control. That's not really the case. You were very vulnerable, and I like that. Thank you so much.

Janice Shokrian

Yeah, it's inauthentic, and I cannot be inauthentic. It's really hard. It's hard starting a business. Yes, you do. There's a lot of pretending that you know what you're doing. I knew pretty well what I wanted to do. Just the how part right now feels really tricky.
