What Do You Do with an Idea by Kobi Yamada, Summary

Introduction: What do you do with an Idea by Kobi Yamada, Book Review

Isn't what do you do with an idea an interesting question? That's an important question, since it's often been said that ideas are a dime a dozen.

What Do You Do With an Idea? by Kobi Yamada is a children’s book, but one every adult should read. The story is simple, but one that everyone can easily relate to, I know I can. While reading the book, I felt like Kobi Yamada was speaking to me and understood what I was going through, and what I had gone through. How many times have you let an Idea die because you were scared to give it your energy?

I have mentioned this before, but years ago, when I first came up with the idea of The Invisible Mentor, a colleague told me that the idea was ahead of its time. For 18 months, I did nothing, until I decided to create The Invisible Mentor blog. In the book, Kobi Yamada walks you through the stages from conceiving an idea to when it takes on a life on its own, and is everywhere.

What is What do you do with an Idea by Kobi Yamada About?

To explain what the book is about, I decided to pull out what I think are the key lessons. Please see them below.

7 Key Lessons from the Book?

  1. When you get an idea, own it.
  2. Spend some time with your idea to learn and understand what it really means.
  3. Set aside time to work on your idea, even if you believe that others might ridicule you.
  4. As you act on your idea, take the time to nurture it, and clear a space to let it grow.
  5. While it is growing, study the idea, to see what secrets it holds.
  6. When the idea has taken root, and becomes strong, step back and let it soar.
  7. Your idea may be the one that changes the world, so never kill an idea, before giving it a chance to grow.

A Technique for Producing Ideas by James Webb Young

Why I like What do you do with an Idea?

I want to learn as much as I can about ideas. Most of the books that I have read about ideas focus on how to find ideas. It is not always easy to find great ideas, but the challenge is that once you have a great idea, what do you do with it. The book is written simply, has some profound lessons, and shows you what to do once you get the idea. It reminds me to take a chance on my ideas, to act on them, and not just talk about them.

I recommend What Do You Do With an Idea? by Kobi Yamada because it is worth the read, and you can do so in a couple of minutes. Children's book break down concepts, so you will grasp the concepts in the book.
