13 Reading and Learning Tools for Adults

1: 14 Hands-Free Reading Tools

In this article by Abby Hargreaves on BookRiot’s website, she includes tools such as book brackets, clips, book holders and more.

2: Book Summaries: The Best Book Summary Websites & Apps

This article includes Blinkist, Shortform, Instaread, getAbstract and the usual suspects.

3: Best Places to Find Book Summaries

This article by Ivana Taylor on the Small Business Trends website gives you most of the usual book summary services. What it also does is provide you with a table so you can compare the prices, features, and benefits for each service.

4: Derek Sivers Free Book Notes

Derek Sivers gives you access to his book notes . He’s someone you want to listen to.

5: Samuel Thomas Davies Free Book Summaries

Another great resource is 136+ Free Book Summaries: Master the Best of What I’ve Read These are the Book Summaries from Samuel Thomas Davies.

6: Art of Learning Leadership Academy Membership Site

I’m adding my membership site, Art of Learning Leadership Academy, where you’ll find Bookish Notes, which are book summaries on steroids. This is a paid membership. You can access book summaries I publish on my blog, The Invisible Mentor.

7: The Best Note-Taking Apps for Productivity

I love this article on the Nodus Lab website because I learned something new. However, I appreciated the inclusion of Roam Research and Obsidian, which are network note-taking tools with bidirectional links. The more notes you add to these two tools, the more useful they become to you. They’ll enable you to write unique articles that stand out from the crowd.

8: Leadership Reading Tips: Mastering Strategic Nonfiction Reading

Many senior level executives and small business owners often feel they don’t have the time to read because of busy schedules. They have to change their definition of what it means to read a nonfiction book. Instead of reading nonfiction sequentially, a better option is to read strategically. That means to read what you need to know.

9: 1,700 Free Online Courses from Top Universities

I love the OpenCulture website. And I’ve used it to find courses to take. They have a variety of courses to choose from.

10: William B. Crawley Great Lives Lecture Series

Many people think TEDTalks are their only option. I love the Great Lives Lecture Series and have watched a few of them. This is a great learning opportunity for professionals.

11: The 50 best podcasts to listen to in 2023

Personally, I’m not a big fan of listening to podcasts because I prefer reading. I’m the exception since so many people prefer to listen when learning. Because I don’t listen to many podcasts, I don’t know the podcasts mentioned in the article. I’m adding my podcast, The One Problem because it’s very short. Female guests present a problem and have six minutes to provide a solution. It’s micro-learning. For now, my podcast is only on YouTube.

12: 10 Newsletters You Should Definitely Subscribe To

There are some interesting newsletters on this list, including SHRM, The Hustle, eLearning Industry and more. I’m adding my two newsletters, Musings of a Book Queen Subscribe on LinkedIn and Brain Food Wednesdays. In my newsletters, I talk a lot about effective reading strategies.

13: Free and Heavily Discounted Books

I love BookBub, Freebooksy, and Digital Books Today. I subscribe to their daily e-zine to see which books are on offer. I've gotten some very great books this way.
