Introduction: Interview with My Future Self

I recently completed the 30-day business blogging challenge Sarah Arrow hosts. One prompt was to predict the future. In my post, I used one strategy I learned from a participant, Barbara van Veen, who is a futurist.

In one post, Barbara interviewed her future self. As I read her post, I thought I could interview my future self because I know how to do it. I learned the technique in the Silva Method course. In the course, you're taught how to create a lab in your mind.

To illustrate this, think back to Napoleon Hill in Think and Grow Rich. He had nine invisible counselors with whom he consulted. Hill did his consultations in the lab of his mind. He was a Silva graduate.

In My Mental Lab: Interview with My Future Self

Now that I've provided context to help you understand my process, the future Avil that showed up was from August 2024. How fortuitous since August is my birthday month. She looked absolutely radiant, healthy, and happy. And she was wearing a beautiful red dress.

It would be fabulous if your future self gave you the winning numbers to a lottery ticket. Or even articles and blog posts that go viral. That was not the case. Future Avil was more concerned about serving the client. She shared with me areas to master and books to read.

Anyone who knows me shouldn't be surprised about the books to read advice. In the Interview, I saw book covers and sometimes book names. In some instances, I got the sense I’d know which books when I went into the Kindle app. Most of the books I own, and are in a queue for reading. I create Bookish Notes based on my book notes. Because of the interview with myself, now I have to prioritize some books over others.

Areas to Focus On: Advice from My Future Self

The first three areas to focus on are Silva techniques I learned. And visualization is very important when you want to see what you want. Visualization is not the same for everyone. Some people do not actually see a picture. They may have a feeling or they may hear a description. If you’ve ever been frustrated because you cannot see something when visualizing, don’t sweat. Describing the image is fine.

Conclusion: Interview with my Future Self

I love talking to my future self. I’ve done it a few times now. But this is the first time I’ve published what I learned. Your future self is wise and wants you to succeed. What would the conversation between you and your future self sound like?

Seeing my future self glowing in that fabulous red dress reminded me of the energy and excitement that await us. She shared some cool strategies like Silva's mind tricks and ways to visualize what I want. And you know what? It's okay if my mind doesn't play nice with pictures – words work too!

As I looked through her list of suggested reads, it struck me that my future self is like a beacon, pointing me toward personal growth and making a difference. The books cover everything from understanding people better to diving into science and creativity. It's like a buffet of knowledge that doesn't have a closing time. So, now I'm inspired to listen more closely to what my future self has to say, and maybe you could give it a shot too. Who knows what amazing advice your future self has in store for you? It's a conversation worth having!
