I love shifting between different book genres. All The Way by Kristen Proby is a book that I have had on my shelves for quite a long time. I decided to pull it off the shelf and add to my monthly TBR pile because I knew it would be a good palate cleanser after reading Six Of Crows. After all, I had this inkling that another fantasy book right after would just lead to disappointment and a bit of a let down. As it turns out, All The Way was a decent read that was drastically different from the previous book I had picked up.
Kristen Proby’s All The Way is the first in the Romancing Manhattan series. This book is about London and Finn. It opens with London in Finn’s office hearing the reading of her parents’ will. Finn, a lawyer, is the executor of their estate. London’s brother ends up disappointed by the will. His parents leave him an annual stipend and a trust but with the understanding that he go to rehab.
As it turns out, they left London everything else. She’s a Broadway star who has been recently injured jumping out the window to escape from the fire that killed her parents. Anyways, fast forward and London escapes to her parents’ beach house in Massachusetts. It happens to be next door to Finn. There her and Finn develop an attraction and begin seeing each other and having lots of sex.
The relationship continues as both head back to New York City. And so, the rest of the book explores that relationship and how London and Finn navigate communicating their needs and boundaries while also having lots of adult moments. Oh and also? London’s brother stirs up some trouble as well. Plus, she has got some career decisions to make particularly with her injury and her age.
So, come to think of it, All The Way was different from my expectations. I’ll be honest and say that I had expected a bit more plot and a little less sex. Like, that is fine and good and I am not a spring chicken or much of a prude. I just would have liked more development spent on the relationship between London and her brother – tenuous as it was. Also, there’s one suspenseful part of the book and it is a blink and you miss it.
I felt like there was all this build up and it just ended up disappointing. I did, however, like that there were communication issues between Finn and London. They were actually explored and resolved really well. As I have the next book in the Romancing Manhattan series on my shelf, I will be back to read it. Also, I’ll have more accurate expectations about the plot to adult times ratio.
