Why Did I Listen To Liberty: The Spy Who (Kind of) Liked Me by Andrea Portes?
Honestly, I decided to listen to Liberty: The Spy Who (Kind Of) Liked Me by Andrea Portes because I saw that the audiobook was relatively short. This book has been physically sitting on my bookshelf for quite a while and as I am trying to clear a little bit of space for new books, it was an ideal time to listen. Plus, I kept hanging on to this book with the intent of eventually reading it because I like YA/New adult espionage type stories.
What’s The Story Here?
Paige Nolan is a college student whose parents might or might not be dead. You see, her parents were writers who were captured by terrorists. But, no one has ever confirmed with her if her parents are indeed dead or alive. Anyways, Paige is at a restaurant when she takes down some jerks who are open carrying. She’s filmed and it happens to catch the attention of Madden Carter. Madden is an operative who recruits Paige to go on a mission. Paige needs to go Russia, find Sam Raynes who is kind of similar to Snowden, and find out the government’s secrets. If Paige does this, then Madden will convince the US to re-open the case on Paige’s parents. So, with all her unique talents, Paige signs up and she is off to Russia.
How Did I Like Liberty: The Spy Who (Kind of) Liked Me?
I went into Andrea Portes’ Liberty: The Spy Who (Kind Of) Liked Me with literally no expectations. As it turns out, that was a good way to start this book off. I had no preconceived notions, just had to listen to the audiobook. Overall, I ended up liking this one a lot. I found the voice of Paige with all her fourth wall breaking to be quite funny. The cast of characters was interesting too – particularly Paige’s roommate as well as Sam Raynes himself. I am overall glad I picked this book up and read it rather than unhauling without reading.
How’s The Narration?
Tara Sands is the perfect narrator for this book. She puts a real swagger and attitude into Paige’s character. I think that was a big piece of why I liked this book so much. Sands really does bring Paige to life and I found myself just captivated while listening. As I mentioned, the audiobook is short coming in at 6 hours and 53 minutes unabridged. Be sure to give this one a shot via audio if you don’t mind fourth wall breaking, new adult, and espionage.
