With the release of my latest picture book, The Boo Crew Needs You!, I got to visit a lot of bookstores and look at their beautiful Halloween book displays! Halloween is always such a fun visual subject, and illustrators are really doing gorgeous work on these books. I’ve put together a list of books that caught my eye, for their sweet/clever texts and their charming/gorgeous illustrations! I hope you enjoy the list and reading some of these wonderful Halloween books.

The Boo Crew Needs You by Vicky Fang, illustrated by Saoirse Lou

This is my interactive, rhyming Halloween book! I wanted to write a book where the characters have to work as a team, and why not make the reader a part of that team too? In this book, the reader must tap, twist, shake the book, and more to help Luna, Bones, and Fang―a ghost, skeleton, and vampire team! [picture book, ages 3 and up]

This is a sweet and fun Halloween book for cat-loving kids! This charming, rhyming story is filled with cats and an encouraging message about being brave when you are scared. [picture book, ages 3 and up]

First Night of Howlergarten by Benson Shum

This cute book features a prospective werewolf going to howlergarten for the first time! This one is a sweet and fun werewolf story that addresses school jitters. [picture book, ages 4 and up]

How To Make Friends With a Ghost by Rebecca Green

Gorgeous illustrations and rich, imaginative spreads invite readers to imagine a friendship with a ghost. This book explores the theme of friendship through a fantastic ghostly lens. [picture book, ages 3 and up]

Give Me Back My Bones by Kim Norman, illustrated by Bob Kolar

Skeletown: Sí. ¡No! by Rhode Montijo

Gorgeous, bold art catches your eye in this picture book featuring only the words sí and ¡no! Follow two Day of the Dead characters through a day of play, told in vibrant, neon illustrations. [picture book, ages 3 and up]
