Visiting Central Saint Martins at Kings Cross in London

Central Saint Martins: We are a world-renowned arts and design college bringing together a diverse range of creative practices under one roof.

My oldest took an extension school class at Central Saint Martins during her gap year. It was just a week-long on pattern making and her classmates were all adults. She loved it though.

Central Saint Martins is located at King’s Cross, which is our main site, and Archway. Please note there are two Granary Squares in N1, Central Saint Martins is based in King’s Cross not nearby Islington.

Some Study Abroad, Full-Time Portfolio and Short Courses will be running at Central Saint Martins in Archway (Annex B), Elthorne Road – N19. From Central Saint Martins website

I didn’t realize that Central Saint Martins has three campuses and the Kings Cross, London location is just for fashion. When my daughter was there in 2019, the Coal Drop Yard was under construction and the green space near the river hadn’t been built yet. This area has morphed into her ideal campus the incredible building that marries an old stone building with a modern addition.

The building is incredible (and huge) and supported by many of Central Saint Martins’ famous fashion designer alums including Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, Christopher Kane, Stella McCartney, Katherine Hamnett, Stephen Jones, Sarah Burton, Phoebe Philo, Jonathan Saunders, Gareth Pugh, Kim Jones, Giles Deacon, Hussein Chalayan, Matthew Williamson, Bruce Oldfield, Jenny Packham, Riccardo Tisci, Zac Posen, and Mary Katrantzou.

The food scene right on campus is also great. Dishoom, my daughter’s favorite Indian restaurant, is right in the Central Saint Martins building and there are other restaurants as well with lovely patio outdoor space.

Central Saint Martins is not an easy college to get into with over 600 applicants for just 50 spots! However, taking short courses might be one way to experience Central Saint Martins just like my daughter did. There are classes specifically for high school students, ages 16 to 18, as well as for those who are 18+.

It might also be a great option for those who want to take a semester abroad!
