Be gentle
With me, O Poet
Be soft as the
Whisper of dew
Into the rose’s
Drowsy ears
Merciful as
Rainshowers upon
The scorched earth
For I am
Mild of mind
And faint of heart
Taunt me not
With inscrutable
Riddles and
Metaphors
Spare me please
Your imponderables
Rather find me
An enchanted river
At rainbow’s end
Not too deep
Not to shallow
Sweet water swirling
Around my
Throbbing angst
Fill to the brim
My cup of madness
With ancient wine
Distilled from
The age’s winery
Not too strong
Not too sweet
Be gentle
With me, O poet
For I am
Mild of mind
And faint of heart
Leave not
My parched cup
Empty
