Balan In The House

Last Year's Prasad
Aah! such fond memories I have of my childhood; of how we would be the most in demand kids that day; aunties calling us at their homes; washing our feet; feeding us and then giving us either money or some gift. For me what mattered the most that day was the black channa prasad; oh how I love it even now.

I remember going to an Aunties place and her serving us Uttapam's; yes your read it right; she served us uttapam's. Her logic was simple; "this festival has no significance for us but the whole thing is so contagious that I want to do it as well; I also want little girls to come to my home; so here you are and I will feed you what I am best at." I can never forget eating uttapam's with Mango pickle. I do it even now.

To go back to where we started, we were contemplating to call the building girls (the process is also called Udyapan) and were a little confused. We don't know if the school is open or if the girls will come or not (what with the changing culture of delivering the food at home).

So we were deep in discussion about and I used the word Udayapan 2-3 times; all this while the Monkey was listening to us with apt attention. When we were done with the discussion and decided against calling girls at home he pitched in

Monkey: So what's the final plan?
Me: As in?
Monkey: Vidya Balan is coming?
Me: What???
Monkey: You were talking about Vidya Balan; are we calling her?????

It took me a second to realise what had happened and then we could not stop laughing.

We had to then explain it to him; its "Udyapan" not "Vidya Balan"
