10 Classic Literature Audiobooks That Will Transport You to Another World

I love getting lost in a good book, and audiobooks make it easier.

With just headphones and a smartphone, I can go to different places and try new things.

I’ll tell you about ten classic audiobooks in this blog post.

“Their Eyes Were Watching God” by Zora Neale Hurston is a beautiful and poetic look at love, finding yourself, and race in the American South. This is the Story of Janie Crawford’s journey as she tries to find herself and true love while facing racism and sexism. Ruby Dee does a great job of bringing the characters to life and capturing the tone and rhythm of Hurston’s writing

Henry James’s classic gothic horror book “The Turn of the Screw” is a ghost story. It blurs the lines between real life and the supernatural. Emma Thompson does a great job of telling the story, making it sound creepy and tense.

E.M. Forster’s “A Room with a View” is a charming and romantic book set in Edwardian England. Follows Lucy Honeychurch’s journey as she deals with society’s expectations and her own desires for freedom and love. Steven Crossley’s reading captures all of E.M. Forster’s wit and humor.

Thomas Hardy’s sad and haunting story “Tess of the d’Urbervilles” is about a young woman in Victorian England who wants to be on her own. The way Davina Porter tells the story is beautiful, and it shows how complicated and emotional Hardy’s characters are.

“The Trial” by Franz Kafka is a strange and existential book about a man’s fight for justice in a crazy and bureaucratic world. Geoffrey Howard does a great job of bringing out the dreamlike quality of Kafka’s writing in his reading.

“The Wind in the Willows” by Kenneth Grahame is a popular children’s book about the adventures of Mole, Rat, Badger, and Toad as they explore the English countryside. The way Michael Hordern reads is great. With his expressive voice, he makes each animal come to life.

“The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” by L. Frank Baum comes to life when Anne Hathaway reads it. Her voice is full of wonder and joy, just like the world of Oz and the fun of finding new things.

Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper” is a scary and haunting short story about a woman who goes crazy. The way Jo Myddleton tells the story brings out the horror and claustrophobia of the story.

The way Dion Graham reads “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” by Harriet Beecher Stowe is a powerful and emotional trip through the world of American slavery. The book “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” shows how bad slavery was in the U.S. Graham’s voice is deep and full, and it shows how strong and brave the characters are.

Henry David Thoreau’s “Walden” is a deep, thought-provoking look at nature and the human spirit. Thoreau’s writing is poetic and thoughtful, and Rupert Degas’s narration does a great job of capturing that.

These audiobooks of classic literature are real gems that will take you to other worlds and leave you feeling richer and more fulfilled. Each narrator gives the works their own style and way of looking at them, making them fun to listen to.
